Gender Confirming Surgery Prep
At True You Electrology, I am committed to creating and maintaining a safe and inclusive space where I provide the dedicated care you need while you navigate your individual transition journey.
Your Questions
Why is electrolysis required for surgery?
Electrolysis remains the sole FDA-cleared fix for permanent hair removal. For gender-affirming care, surgeons need the graft site to be completely clear of hair to avoid complications such as internal follicular growth following your procedure.
How many sessions should I book?
Frequency depends on your needs, but I usually see clients weekly at first. As hair density thins, I can space out your appointments. Consistent visits are the best way I can help you stay on track for your surgical date.
Is there insurance reimbursement?
Yes; most providers offer reimbursement after you pay for care. I provide a Super Bill featuring my EIN and your invoices so you can easily submit it to your insurance company for your professional reimbursement.
Is this safe for all skin tones?
Yes. Unlike laser, I perform electrolysis safely on every skin tone and hair color. I personally adjust my machine settings for your specific skin and hair type to provide the most gentle and effective care.
When is the best time to begin?
I typically advise starting 12 to 24 months before your surgery date. Because hair grows in cycles, I need time to treat every follicle through each stage of growth to ensure I achieve total clearance.
What are the options for managing discomfort?
Your comfort is my priority. I will discuss topical numbing, hydration, and timing your sessions around your needs.
What happens during our first session?
I start with a consultation to review your goals and timeline. I will perform a brief test treatment so you experience the sensation and I can observe how your skin reacts to the electrolysis process.
Can I stay on HRT during treatment?
Absolutely. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can change growth patterns, but it does not stop my work.Â
