Preparing for Treatment

How to Prepare for Your Electrolysis Treatment

A little preparation before your appointment can help make your treatment more comfortable and effective.

Stay Hydrated

Proper hydration is one of the most important ways to prepare for electrolysis. I recommend drinking plenty of water for 24–48 hours before your appointment. Well-hydrated skin allows the treatment to be performed more efficiently and may help improve your overall comfort during the session.

Consider a Topical Numbing Cream

If you're concerned about discomfort, you may apply a lidocaine jelly or cream approximately one hour before your appointment.

For best results:

  • Apply a generous layer to the treatment area.

  • Cover the area with plastic wrap to help the product absorb effectively. Please arrive with your numbing cream of choice + plastic wrap on the area you want treated. I will remove both incrementally during your session to ensure you feel as little discomfort as possible.

Arrive With Clean Skin

If the treatment area is on your face, please arrive without makeup. Clean, product-free skin allows for better visibility and access to the hair follicles and helps maintain a hygienic treatment environment.

For all treatment areas, avoid applying heavy lotions, oils, or creams on the day of your appointment unless they are being used as a topical numbing agent.

Let Your Hair Grow

Hair must be visible for successful treatment. Please avoid tweezing, waxing, threading, or other methods that remove hair from the follicle before your appointment. Shaving is generally acceptable, but enough hair should be present for your electrologist to see and treat the follicles effectively.
